Edmond H. Rees

Raised on a farm in Central Illinois, Edmond H. Rees opened his law practice in rural Macoupin County, Illinois.  Since then, he has spent 14 years as a prosecutor being an assistant States Attorney and elected States Attorney of Macoupin County.    Ed focuses his practice in criminal law and civil trial law.  He has a wealth of experience in criminal trials including cases involving capital murder (death penalty).  He distinguished himself from other defense attorneys when he became certified as an attorney qualified to handle Illinois Capital Penalty cases.  He believes in the rights of the accused and is not hesitant to protect those rights by jury trials.

Ed is not afraid to tackle insurmountable odds a criminal defendant may face and will not allow his clients to plead guilty to crimes they are not guilty of. From 1967 – 1972 and from 1988 to present, Ed has been a criminal defense attorney.  Ed represents the victims of personal injury and wrongful death, as well.  He is not afraid to try criminal and civil jury trials.  He has obtained many sizeable jury verdict awards.

Ed obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from University of Illinois, Champaign, Illinois in 1964.  He earned his Juris Doctorate, with Honors, from University of North Dakota. Ed is a strong believer in giving back to his community.   He serves the legal community by doing pro bono cases for Land of Lincoln Legal Services Corporation and advising members of the Macoupin County Mental Health Department in issues involving senior citizens.

Ed practices primarily in the Carlinville office and appears regularly in Macoupin, Montgomery, Madison, Jersey, Greene, Morgan and Sangamon Counties.  He is licensed to practice law in Illinois and in Arizona, in state and federal courts.

Ed enjoys travel, having held a private pilot’s license, his church and community.  He and his wife, Jackie, love to travel to other countries.   He is very proud of the fact that he and his attorney wife have three children who became attorneys.
